#36alive 235: Essential Oil Of The Month | Sandalwood (+ 3 uses for it!)

Revered for centuries by many eastern cultures, sandalwood is favoured amongst thousands of people as a soothing scent, for its medicinal properties, in skincare regimes, and many soaps, lotions and creams.

Its properties are antiseptic, anti inflammatory, antispasmodic, astringent, carminative, disinfectant, hypotensive, memory booster, and sedative amongst many others.

Adding a small amount of sandalwood essential oil to a few household products allows you to reap the benefits immediately, and also means you’ll be using more natural products, without any of the chemicals or side effects common household cleaning items often come with!

  1. Mix 4-5 drops with ¼ cup of sesame, coconut or olive oil to soothe dry, irritated or sunburned skin
  2. Mix 10 drops of sandalwood oil with 2 drops of tea tree oil, ½ cup of white vinegar and ½ cup of filtered water to make your own home cleaning spray
  3. Mix 5 drops with 2 tbsp of witch hazel, ¼ cup ‘clean’ alcohol (vodka or gin) and ¼ cup filtered water to make your own perfume
