So last week, we looked after things at Samskara Ibiza, a huge and beautiful Yoga retreat in Northern Ibiza. With plenty of guests coming and going throughout the week, we came home having learned a lot, made a lot of new friends and good contacts, provided plenty of therapies, taught daily classes, and perfected a lot of smoothie recipes.
One obvious favourite amongst guests was the Mood Booster smoothie, packed full of ingredients that genuinely naturally enhance mood levels and a sense of wellbeing.
Save this as a regular in your smoothie repetoir, or make it your go-to snack when you need to up your endorphins.
Bananas contain an abundance of potassium, which encourages good muscular health and repair, and also helps relieve unnecessary muscular tension.
Cocoa or cacao (depending upon what you can get your hands on) is a powerful antioxidant, and has gentle stimulating effects that boost mood levels.
Vanilla is very relaxing for the nervous system, whilst maca is a superfood adaptogen, meaning it literally helps the body adapt to any environmental or internal stresses.
Being a healthy fat, coconut it wonderful for brain health, and provides a long-term source of energy. Top things off with your favourite nut milk or organic milk, and you’ve got a sure smoothie favourite!
- ½ banana (to make your smoothie thicker and more satisfying, freeze some chopped banana beforehand).
- 1 tbsp cocoa or cacao powder
- 1 tsp maca powder
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1-2 tbsp shredded coconut
- Milk of choice
- Add all ingredients to a blender and top with desired milk.
- Whizz and serve
