#36alive 231: Sit On The Floor | Position 8 – Squat

The squat, the natural resting position for humans for centuries. In fact, in eastern countries this is still the case however in the west, not so much. Many people are unable to squat, it is common but it is not normal. As kids, the vast majority of people are able to squat, however, as people get older, and they don’t use their joints as they should, the ability to squat is often compromised, when in reality, it should be a comfortable, resting position.

While on a workshop with movement master Ido Portal, he said that people should be able to wait for a bus in a squatted position, for up to half an hour if needed, before effortlessly getting up to get on said bus. Ido recommends that everyone squats for 30 mins every day (more on this in a later post).
So, for our final sitting position, try the squat, if this is not possible (often due to a lack of mobility on the hips and ankles), then roll something up and place under the heels as I have in this video.
