#36alive 147: Make Your Own Curry Powder

Who doesn’t love a good curry, I’ll tell you who….no one! Well, there’s bound to be some people who don’t but most people do, right?! I do, I reckon I could have a curry every day, and I did, multiple times a day when in Nepal last year and never got sick of it, and this is coming from someone who once ordered omelette and chips at a curry house (yes I was that guy!), before progressing to a plain curry for a few years, before eating every curry under the sun, as long as it’s not as hot as the sun of course.

What’s more satisfying than just simply eating a curry is actually making the curry yourself. We’ve discussed the benefits of home cooking before and I find this especially applies to curry.

Knowing what spices to put in a curry is the main battle and that is why we are coming to your rescue with this easy DIY curry mix. Make yourself a batch up for the next time you’re in the kitchen cooking a home-made curry.

2 tbsp coriander

1 tbsp cumin

2 tsp cardamom

1 ½ tsp cinnamon

1 tsp black pepper

1 tsp cloves

1 tsp nutmeg

1 tsp turmeric

½ cayenne pepper (add more if you like it hot, less for a mild version)

As with all recipes, just use this as a guide and maybe play around with the mix little for your own taste.
