#36alive 124: Make Your Own Guacamole (because FYI, the prices are going up!)

Last week we mentioned that there was a hummus shortage due to a particularly nasty metallic taste being reported. Now we have got wind that the price of hummus could actually increase as a result, to offset this cost increase try making your own from the number of recipes we provided last week. This is not the only dip that could see a price increase though, with the popular guacamole dip also looking at a price increase.

What a hummus shortage has to do with the cost of guacamole going up I don’t know, but I don’t want to be paying more for either of them. That’s why today we are giving you this simple guacamole recipe to try out yourself.

If you read our 36alive 56 post you’ll know we are big fans of avocados and even show you how to get in to this amazing fruit properly with a minimum of fuss (check it out if you’re unsure of the best way to cut an avocado). I have at least one a day and just can’t get enough of the stuff.

2 ripe avocados

1 teaspoon of Himalayan Sea Salt

2 Limes

3 chopped cherry tomatoes

2 tablespoons of chopped coriander

1 garlic clove minced

Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Serves 4 (that’s a total guess, I eat big portions so can never tell how many people a recipe should feed but I reckon 4 is about right)

How to:

Scoop out the avocados in to a bowl, and squeeze the juice of the limes over them. Add the remaining ingredients and mash that bad boy right up. Simple as that.
