Like many people I now follow, I first heard Jesse on the Rich Roll Podcast back in 2015. Jesse was just about to release his book “Living With a SEAL”, which is about his time, well, living with a seal.
Jesse has had a very productive life to date, with a successful music career, followed by entrepreneurship, and ultra-marathons, with much money raised for charity on the way. But this wasn’t enough, he felt he could do more. Whilst taking part in a team of 6 running for 24 hours, he noticed one man doing it alone with no support group behind him, that man was David Goggins. Now, we’ve mentioned David Goggins before on #36alive 8, so for more info on David, check out that post, but in brief, David is a former Navy Seal and endurance athlete. Impressed with David’s mental fortitude to get through this race, Jesse invited him to live with him for a month to train him. Initially this was primarily to do with physical training but quickly transformed in to mental training with Jess gaining a lot of mental attributes from the 31 days. As David says, when your brain thinks you’re done, you’re only 40% done.
Jesse didn’t need to do this. He was already very well off and successful but wanted more. That month he was put in to many uncomfortable situations, physically and mentally but came through it a much stronger person, and now he is pushing other people to do the same, to work hard, to not quit, with the message being that we can do more than we can possibly imagine.
This bring us on to #2017ofEVERYTHING. Every month in 2017, Jesse sets a challenge to his followers, all you have to do is post on Instagram or his private Facebook group (link below, just request to join and this will be accepted) saying you have done the challenge, and Jesse donates 100 dollars (up to a capped amount) to that months chosen charity. Pretty incredible right.
I joined this week and upon posting to the group to say I was “up for it” (making myself accountable), had a like and a comment from Jesse himself welcoming me on board.
The challenges so far have been as follows…..
Jan: 31 days to do 2017 burpees, sit-ups, squats, push ups and dips.
Feb: 400 lunges, push ups, sit-ups, jump squats, shoulder touches and 17 miles walk / run, within a 5 day window.
Mar: 10 burpees, 10 push ups, 10 sit-ups, 10 squat jumps, 10 mountain climbers, as many times round as you can in 20 minutes 17 seconds.
Currently for April each letter of the alphabet has an associated exercise (i.e. A = 10 squats) and there are a a number of different hashtags (i.e. #livingwithaseal) All these hashtags equal a workout, with a whole month to get through all the hashtags.
This is a great way to get people moving, exercising, getting in better shape, with the result being that money is raised for charity at the end of the month.
The more people who sign up and complete this, the more Jesse donates to charity, with this months chosen charity the Autism Hope Alliance.
