#36alive 105: Cold Shower Level 2

Yesterday we set you the challenge of turning your shower to cold for 30 seconds in the middle of your normal hot shower. If that was a struggle then keep on doing it until it is no longer a struggle, you’ll probably find that pretty quickly you’ll actually enjoy that part of the shower the most, extending to beyond 30 seconds. If it was easy then it’s time to up the stakes slightly, but before we do, let’s just remind ourselves of the benefits of the cold shower.

  • Decrease in anxiety and stress
  • Circulation boost
  • Reduced muscle fatigue
  • Faster recovery after exercise
  • Increase in the body’s brown fat
  • Increased immunity
  • Enhanced cognitive function
  • Toughen you up making you hard as nails


Ok, so once you feel ready to move on, try this:

30 seconds cold to start > regular hot shower > 30 seconds cold to finish.

If you’re feeling particularly brave, you can alternate in between cold and hot for 30 seconds each, ensuring you start and end with cold.
