If the cold weather recently has got you craving something warm and comforting, but you’re trying your best to stick to your January healthy eating plan, it may be difficult to find something that hits the spot! Until now…. We love experimenting with different foods and flavours in order to create something that is both tasty and full of nutrients to fuel the body and brain.
This drink is tasty satisfying and warming, yet still contains incredibly healthy ingredients. Raw cacao is essentially the most natural source of chocolate, and it’s full of antioxidants and minerals like magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron and potassium. The best part is that even though it’s totally healthy and natural, cacao still contains chocolate’s all-important mood-boosting properties, so you can chase away the Winter blues with this recipe too, whilst also enhancing cognitive performance.
Organic coconut powder is dried coconut milk, which includes all the essential fatty acids and healthy fats coconut has. Lastly, turmeric is the yellow spice everyone’s currently talking about, thanks to its inflammation-lowering ability, and the fact that it encouraged the growth of healthy, new cells.
If you’re looking to boost your mood, energy and libido, add a tsp of maca powder for a sweet, nutty taste and a hit of health benefits, including its ability to balance hormones.
Perfect for travelling, gifting, and storing long-term, this is one ‘instant’ hot chocolate that doesn’t contain any of the not-so-healthy ingredients other big brands include (like sugar, glucose syrup, vegetable fats, emulsifiers and thickeners). Just add hot water to enjoy!
Ingredients (Makes 1 cup)
- 1 Tbsp raw cacao powder
- 1 Tbsp organic coconut milk powder
- 1 tsp ground turmeric
- 2 cracks of black pepper (this helps the body absorb and assimilate turmeric more effectively)
- 1-2 tsp raw honey or agave
- Hot water or hot milk of choice
Add all ingredients to a mug and fill with hot water or a hot milk of your choice
Stir well with a whisk and drink up!
