#36Alive 1: Hangover Cure Smoothie


Despite the resolutions and healthy New Year plans, it’s still pretty likely many of us have woken up feeling less than fantastic this morning. Realistically, January 1st can be a day to spend some time recovering, setting intentions for the next 52 weeks, and doing something small but significant to get the year off to a positive start.

This smoothie has everything you need to cure last night’s ‘one-too-manys’ and may give you some inspiration for future breakfast smoothie recipes. The healthy fats keep blood sugar stable and aid in cognitive function, the fruits and veg raise essential nutrient levels, and the optional extras hold valuable cleansing and mood-boosting properties.


1 tsp coconut oil

1 cup coconut water

pinch of good quality salt

pinch of cinnamon

1/2 banana

1/2 raw beetroot

1 handful leafy greens (spinach or kale)

small handful dark coloured berries (blue berries or black berries)

tsp honey

Optional Extras

tbsp spirulina

tbsp chlorella

tbsp raw cacao

tbsp maca


Add everything to a blender and whiz it up to a smooth consistency. Top with freshly grated ginger to improve digestion & drink asap

Other foods you may want to add to your day today include: eggs, natural yoghurt with probiotics, aloe vera juice, water melon, papaya, turmeric, umeboshi plums and apples
